The Island

There is a small island somewhere in the Pacific that you will not find on any maps. It is a lovely little haven that holds many dark and disturbing secrets.

Our world is not what we have been raised to think that it is, and neither are the people in it.

One in every hundred thousand humans are born with a rare mutation in their DNA. This mutation, in many cases, kills the person before they are in their teens. The one's that do survive may never even realize they are different. There are, however, a few unique individuals that exhibit amazing gifts as a result. These people have taken on the traits of other species. They may have wings like a bird or the thick hide of an elephant. They are capable of amazing feats, but they are almost always met with fear and distrust.

Governments throughout the world held a very secret meeting in spring of 1998 and it was decided that while the people were human and therefore had basic human rights, they were also dangerous and could not be allowed to live among society. That is where the island comes in.

I am really hoping to make this a long term thing so do not join unless you are going to stick it out.

Everyone must be very different species. For instance, my character will be an hawk/woman. So I would prefer that no one else even be a bird of prey (though you can be another sort of bird). Make sure you call the animal you want when you express interest and make sure you know it hasn't been claimed before creating your character.

At the start, everyone has been on the island for at least two years. No more than 17. You can be any age though.

There is a small village and everyone will have a job to contribute.

My character will be in charge. (The chief)

No powers that do not directly relate to your animal.

You may be a person with animal abilities, a half-person/half-animal, or a were-animal. Any way you want to do it, except you cannot be all animal. You have to be able to look mostly human or entirely human.

More will be revealed about the island over time.

This is still a WIP but you may start claiming animals now if you are interested.

The idea in this rp is not to go on any one adventure. The people, for the most part, already know each other and have an established village. The objective will be to live on the island along with a lot of mysterious and dangerous creatures.

Everyone is dropped onto the island only with the supplies they can carry. It can be in bags or backpacks or whatever but you have to be able to carry it on your person. Beyond that you can bring anything you want. Modern tech. There is no electricity on the island except with batteries... assuming you packed some.

Main landmarks on the island:
Village- South side, 1/8 mile from the beach
Old pirate ship- Short ways off shore of north side.

Name: Dianne "Cardinal" Freeman ( she is always called Cardinal on the island)

Age: 27

Gender: Female

Appearance:
The Island DpEnayu

She is 5' 7" tall, strong wiry muscles, and long powerful legs. Her skin is pail and silky smooth. Her eyes are deep brown with bright red speckles. Her hair is so long and this that all she can do is tie it back near her head and let the rest flow free. She always wears the same red dress, black boots, and fingerless black gloves.

Being tall and beautiful, she carries herself with an air of authority. She is not haughty or rude, but she is in charge and she knows it. Beyond that, she is very graceful and that is apparent in her movements.

Animal:Red Hawk. She has hollow bones and weighs much less than she appears to. She has beautiful red wings which can retract into her back. When fully spread out,they have a wingspan of twelve feet, which means they drag on the ground behind her if she leaves them out while walking. She also has razor sharp retractable talons on her fingers.

Occupation: Village chief

Equipment:One old revolver that she found on an abandoned ship just off the shore of the northern side of the island. She carried the revolver back as well as a large barrel of ammunition. She always keeps six shots in the gun and six more in her pocket.

Skills/ special abilities: Besides being able to fly at speeds up to 60mph, she is about twice as strong as a normal woman her size. She only weighs about 35 pounds and can therefore run very fast (about 25-30 mph)

She is a natural born leader and always fearless when it comes to protecting her people.

History: Cardinal was brought to the island when she was only seven years old. She was the first person to be left on the island. She would not see another human for another three years. Were it not for her unique abilities, she would surely have died.

She was originally from California, U.S.A. Her parents discovered her mutation when she was three years old. She had been climbing a tree with a friend and she fell from quite high up. Her mother, who had been watching them, screamed and tried to catch her, but Cardinal glided to safety on the brilliant red wings that suddenly shot from her back. Her parents hid her away for four whole years, but the government eventually discovered her. They arranged an accident for her on the way to school one morning. What her parents believed was her body, badly mangled after being hit by a truck, was actually an unidentified girl that had been dead for days. To this day they have no idea that their daughter had actually been taken and left alone on an island.

Posting my exuberant interest here! To seals will my character be kin, bearing the lower torso and tail of such an animal. I'll add more in the coming days as I find snippets of free time!

Hmm... Ape? Orrrr... Bear? Trying to think of intelligent animals. Remember no matter how old they are, they cannot have been on the island more than 17 years.

Oh! Owl! Or turtle. Don't think tutles are smart but I imagine them being smart if they could talk.

Hmn.. Would you want a character whose abilities give them an advantage in a doctor's profession, Monsieur Coake? Like perhaps a man with bat's ears and hearing, for exceptionally accurate pulse readings? Or an eel's ability to generate electricity, so you can revitalize people near death, and give gentler currents to help patients heal, like electrotherapy? C:

Age: 37

Gender: Male

Appearance: Edward is 5' 11", and muscularly built. He has medium length, scraggly brown hair, and a short, ragged beard. He commonly wears normal clothing, but always has a military fatigues jacket on, with his name, former rank, and a red cross all embedded on it in various locations.

Animal: His animal is a bat. He does not transform in any way, instead gaining the auditory abilities of a bat. His canine teeth are also slightly elongated.

Equipment:Edward originally brought a large backpack filled with medical supplies, and clothing. He also brought a duffel bag, containing a semi-automatic rifle, a handgun, ammo for both, and flint for starting a fire. He also keeps a large combat knife strapped to his right calf.

Skills/ special abilities: Edward is a skilled doctor and rifleman, from time spent as a combat medic in the British Army. He also has highly enhanced hearing from his bat genetics, as well as the ability to use echolocation by emitting a seemingly faint whistle.

Occupation: Primarily a Doctor, but also able to substitute as a hunter or fighter of sorts.

History: All he's told anyone is that he formerly served as a combat medic in the British Army, reaching the rank of Lance Corporal.(Rest to be revealed IC)

Decided to play a Border Collie instead.

Appearance: She stands an average a 5'4" without her boots. She has a sturdy almost "thick" build giving her a tough look despite her size. Her muscles provide some visible bulges but are lacking in definition. She has a rectangular body shape, lacking curvy hips and a thin waist but having ample fat distribution in desirable areas. Her skin is tan from a life of working outdoors. Her hands are lightly calloused. Her face is pretty enough, but somewhat plain, round and a little chubby. Her eyes are dark brown and rather large. She is prone to staring and can do so for long periods of time without realizing. Her hair, or rather fur is long and thick. It is primarily black with large white patches. She has two black dog ears in place of her human ones (as in she is not a freak with 4, crazy cat girls). They are large, pointed, covered in black fur, and highly expressive. She also has a tail. It is black at the base and white at the tip.

Minus her animalistic features she looks like a model for a western and work store. She wears leather boots and gloves, thick denim jeans, and often accessorizes with a bandanna and a cowboy hat. She wears western style shirts and shows a preference for plaid.
Animal:Border Collie

She has a rifle and shotgun. She usually takes one or the other wherever she goes, especially if traveling with livestock. She has a bullwhip and a lasso. She keeps various tools at her house both for repair and farming. She has a small number of various farm animals including sheep, chickens, some cattle, and a beast of burden or two. The most notably is her horse Bandit who was the first wild stallion to be broken on the island (maybe the only one to date). She owns thirty acres of land (no matter what the chief's stance on private property is).

Skills/ special abilities:
Being part border collie, she is built for the chase. She can run at greet speeds of 30 miles an hour, and is agile enough to make hairpin turns while doing so. She is gifted at tracking moving objects. She is brimming with energy and has near boundless stamina when chasing something. She can see in the dark, and has enhanced hearing and smell. Besides her athleticism and enhanced senses she is blessed with a strong affinity to life stock, particularly heard animals like sheep and cattle. She is capable of producing a loud barking noise that would is indistinguishable from a normal dogs.

She is strong but not supernaturally so, but merely as the result of a physically demanding life style. She is a skilled farmer and can live an almost entirely self sustained lifestyle knowing how to cook, sew, smith, and do basic repairs and carpentry on her own. She is particularly skilled in herding and horse riding.

Occupation: Rancher Depending on the size of the village she will also acts as a volunteer assistant deputy if the village when needed and is one of the first people called if a search party is formed.

History: She grew up in a super rural small town in Texas. She was in 4-H and did other rodeo and livestock related events. Her dad was a farmer. Her mutation appeared towards the end of senior year, shortly after being crowned prom queen. She was deported rather forcibly. Over the last two years she has set up a rather small ranch outside the village. The villagers have taken to calling her Tex, rather than her name which few even know.
