A Kingdom of Bones

"Even in tyranny, there is a form of Order.
Whether we like it or not, Order is required for peace to be achieved.
Without Order, Chaos reigns supreme, and worlds collapse.
Awaken the King of Old, for he is the only one,
Who can restore Order without destroying legacies that has yet to be built."

-Heinrich Von Allistair, leader of House Blackblood

Synopsis:
The continent of Terraria once was divided into several Kingdoms. Everything changed when a fearless conqueror rose from the dirt and claimed everything. Killing all who stood in his way, he left only those who swore fealty to him. The new king's rule was absolute, but he feared that he would one day inevitably lose his kingdom. Not to any opposing army, for he believed none to have the strength, but to time itself. He spent the later years of his life searching for a way to escape this fate. In doing so he became one of the greatest necromancers history has ever seen, and created an army that none would ever match. One day he discovered the secret of true immortality, but even that did not save his kingdom from its eventual demise. No matter how mighty, all things fall in time.

King Basil, the first of his name, immortal lordship, and the great conqueror of all of Gliese (pronounced Glee-zuh), was both power-crazed and merciless to those who defied him, but was still loved by his people. As covetous of a King as he was, he left enough wealth to the commoners that none were known to starve. He was fair and just, never killing without purpose and brought stability and peace to a lawless wore torn land. None remember the fall, but many legends suggest he disappeared from the throne long before his kingdom was plucked from his heirs. While the details remain unclear, the situation of Gliese returned to the old ways shortly after the fall of the great kingdom. Wars broke out between the provinces, each of which largely populated by a single race. Inside each of those provinces civil wars and riots raged as lords of houses great and small fought for a crown. With the ruling nobility otherwise occupied many of the commoners turned towards banditry and mercenary work raiding villages that now lacked proper guards and soldiers.

Eventually a new conqueror rose and established a new order, seemingly overnight. The speed of his rise to power was simply supernatural, beyond the scope of any known magic. This new dynasty of rulers was without a doubt more cruel than the last great king, but the order was still preferable to the chaos the preceded it. However things are soon to take a turn for the worse.

There were families still loyal to the old lineage, some who helped the heir escape generation ago, but more importantly one who infiltrated the court of the new king as a steward. The King's steward has discovered how his family rose to power, through a pact with an ancient evil. In exchange for power to win the throne, the first King of the new age agreed to perform a ritual that would bring this ancient embodiment of destruction back from the ethereal realm when the conditions would be right. Now the celestial bodies are beginning to align and the portal will be ready to be called open to unleash the wrath of the dark god of forgotten times. Even if the people knew, they would not rally, not without someone to rally behind, which is why the king's steward has started a plot to find the immortal king and return him to the throne.

Plot:
Hundreds of year later after the disappearance of King Basil, the immortal king will return to conquer the lands that were previously his by nothing more than the rite of sword. To this end he will bring an undead army the size of which the world has never seen and kill any who stand in opposition, and you will help make this happen.

At this point you may be asking yourself, "Are we the bad guys?" The answer is surprisingly (and maybe for some disappointingly) no. You will save the world from utter destruction by finding out what happened to the old King Basil, how his rule came to an end despite him having found the secret to immortality, and bring him back to rally the people still loyal to him to fight against the current king.

Reclaim the throne, for if you do not, the Demons and their God of Destruction will rain untold devastation upon Terraria.

Rules and Guidelines:
1) Follow all general forum rules
2) Host’s word is law
3) Magic is uncommon in this world, not generally known to the common folks. Spellswords, wizards, enchanters most certainly exist but it's not something used by say famers or blacksmiths use to make their life easier. An extrapolation of that rule is almost all magic is combat oriented whether directly or for support purposes. Most who wield magic have an innate affinity towards it. It’s not impossible for a character to learn magic, but it takes an intellectually-talented young person to learn from an incredibly erudite magic user.
4) I reserve the right to kill anyone and everyone, but will only do so if you do something blatantly stupid to put your life in danger. Any character whose life is inadvertently put in danger by another player will most likely be spared.
5) Characters powers and abilities should be reasonable. Those given this task are an elite group despite being completely ragtag at the start. It is conceivable one could take on multiple trained opponents under optimal conditions, but not effortlessly and never more than 10. It is possible that characters may progress in power throughout the RP, through various means and opportunities either set by the GM or by plans made by the player. In the latter case, please inform the GM of your plans either on the OoC or by PM if you want it to be a secret to the others.
6) Players may create a race for their character but this will be contingent on approval of the GM.
7) All characters will meet at the inn, called “The House of the Rising Sun”. How you got there is up to you, but you have been contacted by a mysterious individual to meet him and a few friends at this inn. You were told the man to meet will be dressed with a black cloak, at a table in the far back of the establishment.

Character template:
Code:
[b]Name:[/b]
[b]Age:[/b] (The exact age of your character. No “looks like X years old” (this can go in the appearance part instead) or “unknown”)
[b]Race:[/b]
[b]Class:[/b] (Custom and hybrid classes are allowed. Your class reflects the particular set of skills your character possesses. I don’t want to see your character doing magic or stealth if your class is “Warrior”, unless clearly noted here)
[b]
Appearance:[/b] (What does your character look like? Basic text description required, picture supplemented allowed for further in-depth details)
[b]Equipment:[/b] (Clothing, weapons, armor, magical items, any consistent mounts or animal followers)

[b]Skills:[/b] (Non-magical abilities of note and any outstanding physical traits. Physical abilities may exceed the realm of realism for the sake of competitive balance, but no Superman-like. Anything your character is simply average need not to be listed)
[b]Spells:[/b] (Any magical abilities your character has or spells they know. Be specific as possible. I will be looking for potential abuse as magic is most prone to that. If your characters physical abilities are passively enhanced with magic, as in a spell does not need to be cast for it to take effect nor does it wear off, list that under abilities)
[b]Weaknesses:[/b] (Optional but highly preferred. I am less apt to decline a character that has reasonable and legitimate weaknesses listed if the character has a considerable amount of power)

[b]History:[/b] (Optional)
[b]Personality:[/b] (Will be revealed IC)

Accepted Characters:
Drummy - Satchel (Elven Ranger)
Loard Coake - Xugha Orok (Orc Cleric)
Mist - Valestia Sara Celsia (Ash Elf Necromancer)
TheDarknessOfLoyalty - Tsera'shul Moza'tarral (Elven Maestro of War)
Erit of Eastcris - Auris (Human Sword Knight)
Hydrattler - Aaron (Human Blood Warrior)
Sir Nicholas - Balthasar (Human Gladiator)
Aroro - Pyxis (Pixie Scout)
Saberxnight - Saki Ran Tachibana (Fire-blooded Human Battle Dancer)
Einselar - Ayperos (Half-blooded Demon Shadow Assassin)
Chronos - Hans Scott Vollständig (Half-blooded Demon Pyromancer)

Thanks to Drummy for pretty much everything here. It's his idea and I've simply added stuff here and there and am the host for this RP idea.

I did in the bio I prepared earlier though. 4 times to be exact. I'm fixing that now.

and done.
Quote :

Name: Satchel
Age: 54 years
Race: Elf

Class: Ranger

appearance: She is similar in appearance to a young child. The first aspect of her child like appearance is her diminutive size. She stands well under five feet and her weight is comparable to that of a medium sized dog. Her head his disproportionately large compared to a human adult. Her eyes are round, large, and spaced far apart. With the exception of her eyes, most of her facial features including her nose, mouth, chin, brow, and cheekbones are small or unpronounced. Her nose and cheeks are lightly freckled. Her body is exceptionally slender. An adult male could easily wrap an arm around her torso. Her legs and arms are so thin a man's thumb and index finger would touch if wrapped around the knee or elbow. Her hair is a light gold-brown, the color of tall grass when the droughts come. Her hair is cut unevenly and tied into a braid that sinks down just past the swell of her shoulder blades. Her eyes are the same light green as a Cymbidium orchid. Her skin is tan, but lighter than one may expect of one who has spent a lifetime outdoors thanks to living under shady trees.

Equipment: Her outfit is mismatched and in many cases poor fitting. Her gloves are made of elk hide, and her boots of soft black leather. Both of which are too large for her, a problem she has remedied this situation by pulling them tight and tying them tight. She wears an old faded green dress meant for child a child even smaller than her. To make it fit she has cut it open and laced it together to form a bodice, and cut a hem on the side to allow to fit around her waist. Length is not a major issue because it was once a full length dress and covers enough of her thigh to meet some definition of modest. She also wears an oversized ragged once-white tunic under the dress that covers the parts of her torso that would be otherwise bear and ends just above her knees, and few inches longer than her dress. Over all of this she wears a brown leather belt with a gold buckle that is too long for her and arguably too wide as well covering most of her belly button in addition to her waist, she has forced extra holes into it allowing her to wear it after wrapping it around her an extra time.

She carries a short bow (even in reference to her body size) made of yew. The length of the bow allows her to draw it faster than a traditional long bow. It is also better suited for traveling silently through forest brush, and allows her to shoot from a kneeling or mounted position. She carries arrows with various tips. Some have been scavenged from dead travelers and have iron tips but she also crafts her own tipped with stone. She also carries an iron dagger strapped to her waist.

abilities: Satchel is a naturally gifted archer with a lifetime of practice to hone her skills. She can consistently land headshots on even the smallest and swiftest targets, and given a proper long or recurve bow would show the ability to do so at peerless ranges.

She is exceptionally nimble and surefooted even for an elf. She can move silently across a carpet of autumn leaves and beat any squirrel in a climbing race.

A lifetime in the forest has taught all that anyone would need to know about survival there. She is an excellent tracker and hunter, and has an in-depth knowledge of all local flora and fauna.

Spells:

Detect life: Satchel can detect all life within a radius. This radius is one mile in a calm state and shrinks to 20 yards in a combat or other situations that incites stress or bombards her with unfamiliar outside stimuli.

Animal perception: She can experience the senses of a single animal within the range of her detect life spell. While doing this her body is paralyzed. Conscious will transfer back to her body if her or her host experiences great pain. Does not work on intelligent or magical beings.

Animal possession: A stronger form of animal perception where Satchel actually takes over the body of the animal. Like animal perception her body is paralyzed while controlling an animal. Overuse runs the risk of permanently losing self awareness and human intellect and the inability to return to her body. She can remain in possession of animal experiencing pain but will return to her body upon the death of the animal and experience phantom pain for some time after returning to her body. Does not work on intelligent or magical beings.

Commune with animal: allows her to express her thoughts to an animal target. The root power of the next 4 spells.

Calm animal: does exactly what it says. May be resisted by aggressive targets. Does not work outside of a 20 yard radius.

Intimidate Animal: Inflicts fear on an animal target. Can be resisted by magical and supernaturally large animals. Does not work outside of a 20 yard radius.

Befriend animal: makes an animal loyal. May be resisted by aggressive targets. Does not work outside of a 20 yard radius.

Call animal: beckons a nearby animal to the caster. May be resisted by target. Works within the current range of detect life.

Nature aspect: A group of related spells. She can take on the traits of a single life form within the range of her detect life spell. The different traits are limited to those below but may be borrowed from different animals in a pinch. Will not work on magical beings. Over use leads to adoption of animalistic behaviors and thought patterns, extended use after this point is reached can lead to permanent side effects.

Skin of oak: reinforces her body with a natural armor, cannot move while under this effect.

Strength of bear: highly enhances physical strength.

Eyes of hawk: heavily magnifies visual acuity.

fleetness of rabbit: increases speed and dexterity.

Weaknesses: She wears no armor meaning any unevaded attack has potential to cause serious harm. Her small size limits her reach in melee combat. While she is quick she is lacking in both physical strength and endurance. She is negligibly stronger than what would be expected of a human her size, and she gets limited sustained cardiovascular exercise. She lacks training in any form a close quarters combat. Her bow does not shoot arrows as fast, far, or hard as traditional longbows, giving her a disadvantage against better equipped archers at a long range, and against heavily armored foes. In a similar vein the majority of her experience is killing animals, not humans. All of her spells require proximity to nature, and many of which have innate drawbacks.

Name:Bryson (Averill) Turncloak
Age: 47 years
Race:Human
Class: Fighter
Appearance:
Bryson's has a build many would consider ideal for a knight. He is tall with broad shoulders and a medium build. He does not carry excessive bulk but is well muscled from a life coupling combat with hard physical labor. His face is long and sunken with prominent cheekbones and a strong chin. His eyes are almond shaped,  somewhat further apart and smaller than most, and  a pale grey blue that lacks the fire youth but retains a calm warming glow of an ember waiting for a spark of change. The nose that lies between them is large and bent from being broken more than once. He has a long scar that goes across his nose and curves down to the right towards his lip, and two shorter ones. The first starts high on his cheek and runs up and over towards his left eye. The second is straight up and down his lower face, starting at his jawbone and ending just before it crosses his most prominent scar. Besides these disfigurations the most of his face is shockingly smooth removing many of the years his gray hair adds to his apparent age. His hands and back are heavily scarred, the skin on them so thick  and calloused one would expect it to hinder their movement. His hair is only a few inches long, cut regularly to keep it away from his eyes and ears, but not particularly well groomed. The color is inconsistent shades of gray ranging from a light ashy color to the dark shade of iron.
Equipment:
His armor is simple and strong. It lacks the ornamentation of highborn knights including carvings, sigils, are colorings of and sort. He if fully armored wearing multiple pieces of steel plate over a chainmail hauberk. His helmet is open faced. His arms, legs, and even the top of his feet are protected by separate pieces to allow for freedom of movement. He wears a thick black wool cloak over his armor to protect from the weather while traveling. Along with his armor he carries a plated steel buckler that is 15 inches in diameter.
He carries a steel long sword over his should in a simple leather sheath. The handle is elongated with a simple cross guard. allowing for a either a two or one-handed grip. The blade is two sided and four feet long. Like his armor there are no decorations on the sword. He carries a 12 inch dagger strapped to his right breastplate.

Skills:
Bryson posses immense skill with weapons from years of training and real combat experience. He can expertly wield his sword in both hands or in conjunction with a shield, and is accomplished in mounted combat. While  he favors the sword he is proficient in all martial weapons. He has excellent composure making him able to think  faster and more clearly than most even in the midst of large scale battles with unfavorable odds.  While he lacks experience in giving orders he has great knowledge of combat logistics and military strategies. His skill in combat is further augmented by his cunning to evaluate both his surrounding and the limitations of his foes and take advantage of them accordingly.
He possess great strength and stamina and has become accustomed to the weight of his armor to the point that it he is almost completely unhindered by it.
Bryson is as much a smith as a fighter. He is able to craft all forms of metal armor and weaponry. This comes with a deep knowledge of the strengths and weakness of most weapons and armors and how to take advantage of them.

Spells: none
Weaknesses: Is not equipped to launch any long ranged attacks, and has zero magical proficiencies.

Sounds good. Mine is probably going to be a pain to read. I think went more detailed with appearance than I ever have before.

Hey since you're in charge of figuring everything out now, is the King in charge curerntly the first of his lineage or have a few generations passed since then. I don't want to create any inconsistencies in my posts by accident.

@Drummy: Overall bio is accepted. The only thing that needs to be changed is her age. As mentionned in the bio template, I want her exact age, no "unknown" or "looks like X". All I know is she has an age numbering in the three-digits, but you're going to have to narrow this down, as I can't make the proper difference between 100 and 900 years old.

And to answer your latest question, yes. The King now in charge is the same one that rose in power almost a hundred years ago. No one truly knows how did he managed to live this long, but rumors speculate he might have delved in the same dark secrets as late King Basil did.

@LordCoake: Bio is also approved, although I would like to know first a bit more about his spells. Is he casting spells as a bard though magical singings and music, or is that magic individual from his bardic aptitudes? As such, would it be safe to say that in the case of lowering your foes' combat capabilities, an opponent with hearing problems could have some sort of resistance to your magic, and same would apply to allies affected by healing/combat enhancing spells?

@Mist: While I did not thought out this much about the world by itself, I think it would be nice if I can whip out the setting I've created a while back. As such, you can use this thread as reference for divine beings, or you can make your own if you feel what is there does not suit your taste. Just bear in mind that the ones described there are the main gods, and any new god you would be making would be classified as "lower" divine beings or "Demi-Gods" like Bothrel.

@Hydrattler, Rorschach and Sonata: It's fine by me, I can easily find opportunities to have you jump in the RP should you apply after the RP has started.

As for when I'll start posting the IC, I'd like to have a minimum of 3 approved bios before starting this RP.

I thought it said or unkown, not no unknown-my mistake. I msiread that. XD I'll fix it right away chief.

Scatch that, can I get som dates first. Like when did the first great King march across the land, when he fell, how long afterwards the second conquerer came, and how long its been since his family took power. I'll definitely be towards the end of that spectrum, but I still want to know these thigns for reference.

Never mind. I missed the second part of your resonse to me. I'll add that henceforth.

@Max His song-spells and Healing/Illusion spells are two different kinds. the Song-spells are required to be put in the form of lyrics to a song, and must have musical accompaniment, the Healing/Illusion spells are like standard wizard spells, and do not require music. As for the songs and hearing problems, the person would be more resistant due to their hearing problems. A deaf person would be completely immune.

I decided to use the D&D elf race as a guideline for my characters age making her signifigantly younger than expected. I'm not sure how long elves live in your world, if its signifigantly different I'll update accordingly.

@Coake: Alrighty then, thanks for clarifying that up. Bio is accepted!

Drummy:If you want to have a basic look-around at the races, I can only but refer you to this thread for a general overview of the races. Since it's general fantasy lore, you are also free to create your own race (pretty much what you already did there with the Dryad race) to add up to the world.

Did you left your reading skills at school when you went on vacation?

It's pretty much the same as D&D elves. If you based yourself off that, you should know they reach adulthood at about 110 years old. Expect it to be the same here as well.

@Max, if its fine with you, I'm gonna modify the race and appearance of my character. Saw something I liked better in your race section of the world thread.

@Coake: It's all cool. We haven't started yet, so there is still room for modifications until we get this up running.

@Drummy: You oughta read through all that which you need to know to avoid making those mistakes. Strop being lazy and dust off that rust, hahaha!

Sorry to cause any problems, but I'm gonna swap my Bard out for this character:

Name: Xugha Orok
Age: 26
Race: Half-Orc
Class: Cleric of Orcuus
Appearance: He is 6' 4", weighs 199 pounds, has greenish skin, tusks, is bald, has a scar running down his face, making him blind in his left eye.
Equipment: He carries a Steel mace, wears chainmail armor and a metal buckler, carries a Holy Talisman to Orcuus, and a copy of the orcs' holy teachings written in a book.

Skills: He is capable of handling 1-3 melee combatants at once with some ease, but any more and he begins to struggle.
Spells: He can cast various spells capable of healing others from various types of injury, he can increase the strength of others, and decrease the strength of enemies. He also has various utility spells such as creating light, food, water, or small amounts of fire.
Weaknesses: He needs time to focus some of his stronger spells, and he can hardly do anything effective in ranged combat.

History: IC reveal
Personality: IC reveal

Quote :
@Mist: While I did not thought out this much about the world by itself, I think it would be nice if I can whip out the setting I've created a while back. As such, you can use this thread as reference for divine beings, or you can make your own if you feel what is there does not suit your taste. Just bear in mind that the ones described there are the main gods, and any new god you would be making would be classified as "lower" divine beings or "Demi-Gods" like Bothrel.

Well I have an idea for a race s here goes (with a patron god.)

-Cindashelle: Theologians and other researchers appear unable to determine the exact nature of this entity, some believing her to be a demigod like Bothrel while others believe her to be a lesser god. Some myths suggest that she is simply a malevolent spirit who invaded the world but those who revere he hold that she comes from Askerrit and Stella, a lesser goddess who stand for corruption, treachery, torture and immortality. Allthough it is not known why, she seems to harbor a grudge towards life, Stella and Illistriana.

-Phoenix: Also known as the Ash elves, wraiths, wendigos or the children of Cindashelle, the phoenix are a corruption of both vampires and elves. Ash elves are formed from an elf (or vampire) completing Cindashelle's grey sacrament. The ash elves live to the same age as their elvish brethren but when they die, the bird that has bonded to them will take a flame to their bodies and from the fire that consumes their old form the ash elf will emerge once more in the form of a child and must kill a living being and feed their ashes to the bird ( and eat some of the ashes) or die their final death in fifty years. The bird who the ash elf fed half their kills ashes to will become boded to ash elf. The bird contains the souls of those who's ashes it eats and gains a red feather for each soul it contains. Birds of first generation elves are black while the feathers of later generation are visibly lighter. Ash elves feel great pain, akin to a vampire walking through fire, when they attempt to enter place of the dead ( crypts and graveyards for example ) and have a weakness to cold. Ash elves ave an affinity for fire. Ash elves have white skin and pale hair with captivating eyes. The teeth of ash elves are like those of normal elves while they have the claws of vampires. It should be noted that the bird has the same weaknesses and strengths as the ash elf, is sentient and that should they die the ash elf will no longer be able to renew their life. A myth among the ash elves also suggests that an ash elf consuming the ashes of another ash elf will be granted the power to reduce other living creature to ash with a kiss, no proof as been found to validate this myth.

Gray sacrament- An elf can enter into the grey sacrament by killing a vampire, burning its body and then consuming its ashes with a bird washed in a mixture of their own blood and that of their victim. The sacrament usually call s for the vampire to be of the same age as the ash elf to be. Another form of the grey sacrament involves the same process being repeated three times with normal elves half the age of the ash elf to be.

If you accept I will use this race for my character :P
btw I kinda likethe twisted and dark nature of these elves.
